Storyboard Text

  • We may not realize it but we use polynomials outside the math classroom. My friends and I want to go to the beach for 1 week this summer. We each need to contribute $500 for rent and food. How many weeks do I need to work if I bring home $80 per week?
  • Let x=number of weeks worked f(x)=500    80(x)=500 80x/80=500/80 x=6.25 I need to work 7 weeks to earn $500
  • Each person makes 1 dinner. I will make pulled pork. The recipe serves 6-8, so I need to double the recipe of 4lbs. pork roast, 2 cans of root beer, and 9 oz of barbecue sauce. Let p= pork, r= root beer, and b= barbecue sauce. How much money do I need to buy these ingredients? p=$5.00 r=0.75 b=$2.00  2p+4r+2b=x  2(5.00)+4(0.75)+2(2.00)=10+3+4=17  I will spend $17.
