In 1841 there was a brave girl named Dorothea Dix who visited jail . She witnessed some terrible things.
She visited the jail house because so was to teach Sunday school to the kids and adults. But learned that people where getting abused and that the jail system is broken.
So she decides to visit more and more prisons through out the East coast and realizes that at all prisons the prisoners are abused and beaten.
She goes and tells everybody about what is going on inside the jails and how people are getting treated. Everybody was infuriated.
So they took it to the court and campaigned for better conditions for the people in jail and for the insane people.
She won in court and she started to see more and more that people in jail were getting treated fairly.
