  • Its a nice summer morning outside. It states, "The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny." The people are gathering around the square. The children that are off school gather and play with the rocks while everyone is getting ready for the lottery. The men talked about their children, tractors and taxes while time passes.
  • The stoning
  • The box was on the stool and suspense was rising. The slips of paper were inside it. It says in the text, "Mr. Martin and his oldest son, Baxter, held the black box securely on the stool." The sense of mystery rises when later in the text it says, ""Who's got it?," "Is it the Dunbars?," "Is it the Watsons?" Then the voices began to say, "It's Hutchinson. It's Bill," "Bill Hutchinson's got it.". This created a mystery and surprise in the story.
  • Mr. Summers gathered the familys one by one. As soon as everyone had their paper, Mr. Summers told the men to open the slips. The ladies started asking, "who is it, who's got it?". It also said in the story, "The voices then began to say, It's Hutchinson. It's Bill, Bill Hutchinson's got it.". There were 5 slips that were individually picked to the family. Tessie drew the paper with the black dot on it and was suprised.
  • As it was time to stone Tessie, everybody circled around her trying to do get it over with quickly. It says, "All right, folks," Mr. Summers said. "Let's finish quickly."'. Everybody started picking up the stones to get ready.
