  • I have encouraged the town's leader to peacfully hand it over...
  • In Autumn 1575 Spain declared bankruptcy, as they could not afford to pay their soldiers.
  • In the Netherlands the spanish soldiers decided to taking their own money by raiding Antwerp.
  • Sancho d'Avilla, who was the spanish commander, had the idea to raid Antwerp.
  • Antwerp's governor, gathered around 6000 troops on 3rd of November. Defences were also put up by civilians around Antwerp.
  • However, When the spanish soldiers attacked Antwerp, troops fled and this meant the civilians were left to fend for themselves. The civilians were against trained soldiers.
  • 7000 people were killed, almost none of them were Spanish... The attack lasted for three days!
