Blood is Thicker Than Water
Nya is a girl in South Sudan, 2008. Salva is a man who survived the Second Sudanese Civil War. Nya struggles to obtain, clean, safe drinking water for her family. Salva comes and helps Nya's village, by building a well. Salva is a Dinka, and Nya is a Nuer. These two tribes have had a long brutal history, but despite all odds they come to help eachother.
The Water is Dirty
"The water wasn't clear. It was brown and heavy-looking. It was full of mud," (pg.84)
Despite the Village's hope, the water from the well was not clean and clear, it was like the pond water, thick & muddy.
The Water is Clean
"The water was delicious. It wasn't warm or muddy, like the water from the pond. It was cool and clear," (pg.112)
The village celebrates over their success and newfound resource, clean water, unlike they have ever had water before.
" 'I am Nya' I am happy to meet you Nya, he said. 'My name is Salva'," (pg.115)
Nya Meets Salva
Nya meets Salva, a Dinka who helped a Nuer village get clean safe water to use, even through their history.
