They all wanted to participate in the discussion and then write about Rosa Parks' impact on her community. The passage was at an appropriate level for the group and had an appropriate length of text.

The context was very calm and relaxed. Students were spread around the room for reading groups. In the whole group lesson, the students were respectful and seated calmly on the carpet in a group.

During both the small groups and the whole group lesson, students ere able to read texts and then participate in writing activities that held their interested. They were not expected to sit down and do worksheets, but were rather, engaged in the lesson.
