I loved working in international development so we moved back to the US and I worked for the MBA Enterprise Corps at UNC-Chapel Hill for 6 yrs. I also started a doctoral program in adult education. And we had two fantastic children!
I was born in Alabama, and grew up in Kansas and North Carolina. While I traveled the US with my somewhat Hippie parents, I didn't own a passport until I was 29 years old.
My parents sent me to a private Catholic school from 6th-9th grade (though I'm not Catholic) because they were afraid that I would give my lunch money away in public school. Apparently I had a soft heart!
I grew up, went to college, got an MBA, got married...and my husband and I decided that we wanted to work overseas. So I volunteered for the MBA Enterprise Corps and we moved to Slovakia for a 1-yr. assignment.
In 2000, we moved to Kazakhstan so I could lead SME and education development projects. In 2003, I joined the US Foreign Service, working for USAID. I served in Macedonia and Jamaica before returning to the US in 2008. During this time I got my Ed.D.
Now I'm working at NC State University - teaching innovation, and wondering what's next. How do I demonstrate my passion for empowerment and solving system-level problems in the world? My kids are now older teenagers and I'm divorced so there is a lot of possibility in my future. I just need to figure out what I want.
