  • Johnny, the Would-Be Deviant
  • Johnny! Why'd you push Jenna down the slide? Your recess is over for the day, bad students don't deserve fun. 
  • Labeling Theory (Primary Deviance):  Johnny is violating a norm by pushing Jenna down the slide.
  • I'm so hungry but I have no money to buy food. 
  • There is nobody at the counter, and I have no money. I'll just take a couple pieces of candy. 
  • Structural Strain Theory (Innovation): Johnny used deviant means to achieve his goal. He stole food to get rid of his hunger. Johnny internalized the idea that he is a bad student/kid so it was easier for him to justify stealing the candy.
