“Dear my beautiful daughter, I am so glad that we are so close and I don’t know what I would do without my precious little girl. Christmas is my favorite time of year because it is when we get to see our loved ones."
Until one day, around Christmas time, she was looking for something in her house when she found a box of old stuff. She had no idea where it came from. She did not recognize the box and she swore she had never seen it.
She opened it up, and inside, it held all of her Christmas gifts from the year her mom died and several Christmas decorations. She then realized that after her mom died she never got to open her presents. She took a skinny box out and opened it up. Inside it had a letter from her mom.
Thank you so much Scarlett!
She started to read it aloud but she got emotional so she read the rest in her head."When you are old like me, I hope you and your family still come down to my house for Christmas so we never spend it apart. You are going off to college next year and I will miss you dearly but I know you will grow up to be such a kind woman. I love you my dear. Merry Christmas!"
The letter reminded her of all her happy Christmas memories with her family. She knew exactly what to do. She packed her things and went to Chicago. She went to her aunt’s house with the intent of spending Christmas with them. She nervously walked to the door.
As soon as her aunt saw her, she warmly welcomed her in. Her aunt was so surprised to see her because Scarlett had never spent any holiday with them, let alone Christmas. Scarlett played games with her family and they all exchanged gifts. From that day on, she spent every Christmas in Chicago.
She finally stopped hating Christmas and she realized that celebrating Merry’s favorite holiday with her loved ones, is the best way to honor her. After she found that Christmas letter, her whole world had once again changed, but this time it was for the better.
