The main characters in the story are Jeannette, the narrator, Rex Walls, the father, Rose Mary, the mother, Lori, oldest sister, Brian, only brother,and Maureen, the youngest sister.
The Well's family lived in many towns throughout their lives. Due to Rex's "issues" the family was forced to move around.
The conflict in the book is Rex and Jeannette's relationship. Their belligerent creates a problem for the children.
The climax of the story is when the family begins to fall apart. Rex uses his daughter as a way to win a bet. Jeannette realizes that she needs to leave.
The theme of the book is development from childhood to adulthood.
The author's purpose of The Glass Castle was to encourage people to achieve their dreams and not their past hold them back.
