We want slaves to count as people!
No! it's not fair to the states that don't have any slaves!
After the Great Compromise, people started to wonder what's going to happen with the slaves. Are they going to count as people or property? The southern states wanted slaves to count as people to get more population which means more power for them. The Northern states wanted the states to count as property.
There's weakness of the government under the Articles of the Confederation!
The delegates agreed on a compromise. They called it The 3/5 compromise. Slaves would count as 3/5 person towards representation and 3 out of 5 slaves counted towards the population.
You guys would ruin the country with those awful taxes of yours! We want the states and the people to have more power!
The delegates also argued over how to approve the Constitution.
There were Federalist who argued for ratification.
Then there were Anti-Federalist who argued against ratification.
Well the Federalist agreed to create a Bill of Rights if the Anti-Federalist agreed to ratify the constitution. James Madison narrowed down the list to 12 and congress passed 10, creating the Bill of Rights!
