Storyboard Text

  • In Connecticut, there lived a ten-year old girl named Alice. She had thick glasses and she knew all fifty states, plus their capitals, birds, and mottos.
  • But the thing she loved most of all was her dog. Mom always called him Freddie, but his name was Fredrick.
  • So she put on her scarf and headed back out into the frosty February air. When she looked both ways before crossing the street, she noticed some girls from her school.
  • One day, Alice came home from school to see the back gate of her house swinging in the wind. She didn’t know what had happened, but Fredrick wasn’t in the backyard.
  • She called Mom’s work phone, but there was no answer. She thought about the motto of Oregon “She flies with her own wings,” and “While I hope, I breathe,” which was South Carolina’s.
  • Alice quietly slipped off her glasses, narrowed her eyes, and kept walking. She looked at the park, but there was no Fredrick with the fuzzy swings or blurry slide.
