Storyboard Text

  • Once upon a time, a long time ago, a little girl  named Laura lived in the woods of Wisconsin with her Father and Mother, her sister Mary and baby sister Carrie.
  • Laura and Mary loved playing with their dolls, their dog Jack,  listening to Pa tell stories, and when company came.
  • When company came Ma curled their hair. Everyone noticed and complimented Mary's golden curls, but no one noticed Laura's dull brown curls. They especially loved seeing their Aunt Lotty
  •  Laura waited to see how Aunt Lotty would respond to Mary's question and felt miserable. She knew Mary's hair was prettier.
  • Hi Aunt Lotty!!
  • Which do you like best Aunt Lotty, brown curls or golden curls?
  • Lauras throat swelled. She knew Mary was right
  • I like both kinds best!
  • Aunt Lotty likes my hair best. Golden hair is prettier than brown.
  • Later, Mary and Laura were gathering wood chips for the fire
  • Laura reached over and slapped Mary
  • But Mary said-
  • It makes no difference
  • Come here Laura.
  • I told you girls you must never strike each other.
  • He took the strap down from the wall, and whipped Laura
  • Later. .
  • Come here, Laura
  • At least Mary has to collect all the wood chips herself
  • You like golden hair better than brown, don't you?
  • Pa hugged her and she told him all about it.
  • Well, Laura, my hair is brown.
  • She was still glad Mary had to gather all the wood chips
  • She had not thought of that. Pa's hair was brown, and his whiskers were brown, and she thought brown was a lovely color
