  • This is an example of Winston being an anti hero because he doesn't strongly feel against the government who knows are doing him wrong. But yet he sometimes love them. Which is a trait a hero would not have.
  • This is an example of Winston being an anti hero because he exhibits a malicious, cruel and disturbing want to physically hurt someone. Opposite of what a hero would act or want.
  • He is proven an anti-hero because Winston is fearful and cowardly which is  a trait an anti-hero would have.
  • "It was even possible, at moments, to switch one's hatred this way or that by a voluntary act(15)"
  •   "Vivid, beautiful hallucinations flashed through his mind. He would flog her to death with a rubber truncheon. He would tie her naked to a stake and shoot her full of arrows like Saint Sebastian He would ravish her and cut her throat at the moment of climax(15)"
  • "He sat as still as a mouse, in futile hope that whoever it was might go away after a single attempt but no, the knocking was repeated. The worst thing of all would be to delay. His heart was thumping like a drum, but his face, from long habit, was probably expressionless(20)"
