  • The flu pandemic of 1918 to 1919
  • "Food and Fuel help win the War". Crop prices raise to encourage the production of more crops and there was a widespread encouragement to preserve food, saving it for soldiers who needed it more. Hence the growth in crop production and the term meatless Monday.
  • Wars End, Treaty of Versailles - 1918
  •     When men left for the war the workforce needed women to take the place of the men who had left. Women had never really had to have jobs before, many jobs were also created because of the war and what materials our soldiers needed to fight. The involvement of women in the workforce led to several advances in Women's Rights.
  • Our new Great America
  • The flu pandemic of 1918 to 1919 infected about 500 million people worldwide. Soldiers contracted the flu during the war and brought it back after the war had ended. It killed an estimated 20-50 million people. This outbreak helped advance medical research and prevention.
  • In the fall of 1918, the Treaty of Versailles ended the war between Germany and the Allied powers. Americans returned after a brutal and bloody war which affected many soldiers for years to carry on. Life was hard to come back to with about 116,000 soldiers killed  in combat and  twice that many  either wounded or MIA.
