At the central station, Marlow meets the station manager, who tells him his ship has sunk.
The "cannibals" were added to the crew. They are judged by the European travelers, however they don't eat the whole crew, despite being hungry.
At the inner station, Marlow runs into a Russian who absolutely adored Kurtz and is wearing scraps from Kurtz' clothes.
They adored him... He came to them with thunder and lightning.
Marlow finally meets Kurtz and finds out he is very sick. Kurtz leaves him his old documents to continue his legacy once he's gone.
Kurtz tells Marlow that he is waiting for death, and ends his life in hopelessness and despair, uttering his final words, "The horror, the horror." Ultimately, he’s happy he finally can leave the darkness of life behind.
The Horror! The Horror!
When Marlow tells Kurtz wife of his death, he lies about final words to make her feel better even though he hates lying.
