  • Nevermore.
  • What's your name?
  • It is a dreary December night, and a man is sitting in his chamber (bedroom) before a fire, reading a book, almost falling asleep. 
  • Climax
  • Nevermore.
  • Will I ever see my dear Lenore ever again?
  • The man misses Lenore, a maiden who was presumably his friend or love interest; she has previously passed away.
  • Falling Action
  • Get out!  Get off of my chamber door and LEAVE!
  • After a few eerie knocks on the door and the window lattice, the man opens his window; a raven flutters into his house and perches on his chamber door, watching him. When asked for its name, the raven replies with "Nevermore." It continues to respond to his questions with this same word.
  • Resolution
  • The man asks the raven if he will ever see Lenore again. The raven responds, "Nevermore."
  • Nevermore.
  • The man, furious at the the response he received, screams at the raven and tells it to leave. The raven says "Nevermore."
  • The raven refuses to leave. A symbol of his sorrow, it will forever sit upon the man's chamber door, constantly reminding him that he will never be truly happy again.
