All the people gathered in a square of the town, to participate in the annual lottery event on June 27th. All the heads of the households take a slip of paper from the box. Mr Summers mixes the papers.
Tessie realized that her husband's slip had something on it, so she began to say that the lottery wasn't fair and that Bill wasn't given enough time to choose the paper he wanted.
Then Mr. Summers puts 5 slips of paper in the box, since the entire Hutchinson family was going to participate: Tessie, Bill, Bill JR., Nancy and the little toddler little Dave. Then Mr. Summers puts the 5 paper slips in the box including the one Bill had.
All of the family members grabbed a slip of paper and opened it, all of the paper slips were blank except fr Tessie's it had a black dot on it; made by a pencil.
Tessie said for the second time that the lottery wasn't fair, all the villagers surrounded her and they all grabbed rocks. Mr. Summers said: "All right, folks." "Let's finish quickly."
A stone hit her on the side of the head, Old man Warner encouraged the villagers and Mrs. Hutchinson kept saying it isn't fair, it isn't right, then they were upon her.
