  • Too many populace growth
  • In 1953, China’s populace was growing quite rapidly and there was a need to find a way to stop exceeding population growth as the Chinese government could not support such a large population. So,, the leaders of China decided to control the population and approve a law on birth pills and abortion, and encouraged and prove birth controls.
  • Mao Zedong’s party of communists was in charge of China, and so things went from worse to worst. Zendong believed that China should have a better working economy and so tried to increase the population by industrializing the populace, and then getting people attracted towards a more modernized lifestyle.

  • The Chinese Government launched a campaign called “Long, Late and Few”, during the 1970s. It is propaganda for having delayed marriages which then leads to having lesser children and increased the amount of years between each child. From 1970-1976, the rate of fertility plunged by more than half. Furthermore, birth rates dropped from six births per woman to one.
  • During the 1980, the One Child Policy becomes mandatory for couples and imposes fines for all couples betray the policy. Now, couples need to ask for permission to have a child and so this has slowed down the fertility rate massively and prevented approximately 400 million birth, butt his has proven false.
  • OCP is now mandatory

  • Was the Policy fair?
  • But now families are getting smaller and it increases the amount of male a family would prefer. This increases the chances of infanticide and also makes it so that males are preferred.
  • In 2015, the Chinese public feared that all economic and social issues in China are due to the One Child Policy. Female babies are being sold in the black market, and workforce challenges occurring and human rights violations.
