Apollo gave his son Orpheus a lyre. Apollo played it very beautifully. Orpheus soon married Eurydice, a beautiful woman - Hyman, who was called to bless the marriage, predicted that their love was not to last.
One day, Eurydice was in the forest when she got bitten by a snake. She died and Orpheus was grieving much, playing songs of grief on his lyre.
Orpheus went to the Underworld and played his lyre to Hades, melting Hades' cold heart. Hades agreed to let Orpheus to had Eurydice - only if Orpheus did not look at her on his way out of the Underworld.
