Ty'ree and Laf sit down to eat. They decide to go to the movies after their meal
On their walk to the theatre, Ty'ree and Law talk about them being poor. This makes Laf think of when Newcharlie burned all his pictures of Mama, and put plants in the window to try to make a difference.
Kind of, but it won't always be like that.
Are we poor, Ty'ree?
After their conversation, the boys decide to not go to the movies, and go to a cafe to get drinks instead.
The boys go home and go to bed. Ty'ree wakes Laf up in the middle of the night, and says that they have to go to the police station.
Laf, wake up. They got Charie. We have to go down to the station.
When they get to the station, Charlie is balled up in a corner, trying to disappear. He had cuts and bruises all over his face and arms. He explains what happened.
I was joining a gang, but I had to fight someone. A guy said he'd drive me home, but while I was in the car, he said I needed a few punches to toughen me up.
He's good. He says he doesn't need colors to be bad. He says it's already inside him.
Laf goes to the park to play basketball with his friends. While he is out, he sees Aaron and some other big guys. Law makes Aaron mad.
You better watch it, Lala.
The boys sat out on their stoop. Finally, Charlie was back, and he was not Newcharlie. He sat talking to Laf for a while, before Ty'ree started telling them things Mama used to say.
The boys decide to catch a movie, now that everyone is happy.
