This shows an problematic event has definitely happened between Okonkwo and Nwoye. Showing that he could of driven Nwoye away from the tribe.
I am just disappointed .
"I am one of them , I don't know he is not my father."
"It was only from Nwoye's mother that he heard scraps of the story."
I do not want to speak about my weak son Nwoye
This scene shows even more why Oknonkwo drove Nwoye away. In addition he is destroying the unity of the tribe with his actions.
"And so Obierika went to Mbanta to see his friend. and he found that Okonkwo did not wish to speak about Nwoye."
"He had hoped that Oknokwo would be happy to hear of it."
We see that Nwoye actually wants a relationship with his father or at least repair it. Even after every thing Okonkwo has done he still wants to be family.
I hope he is able to accept me for who I have become.
"He had just sent Okonkwos son,Nwoye who was now called Issac. To the new training college for teachers in Umuru
"Okonkwo was deeply grieved, and it was not just a personal grief. He mourned for the clan."
The ironic thing is that Okonkwo is grieving for the clan because it is falling apart. Although in actuality he is one of the reason why the clan is falling apart.
......I thought we were family.
"Okonkwo had driven him away with a threat that if he came into his compound again, he would be carried out of it.
"When Unoka died he had taken no title at all and he was heavily in debt. Any wonder then that his son was ashamed of him,"
Okonkwo dislike of Nwoye mainly stems from his distaste from Unoka. This is because these two characters are very similar if you compare them.
You are a disappointment. to the clan.
"It was the fear of himself, lest he should be found to resemble his father."
"Nwoye resembled his grandfather ,Unoka, who was Okonkwos father. He pushed the thought out of his mind."
Okonkwo is extremely disappointed in Unoka and Nwoye. A lot of this is because they share a lot of the same traits. Okonkwo was known for saying people like Unoka and Nwoye ruin and destroy the tribe. In reality it is mostly people like Okonkwo that can't control their anger and can't think before they act.
We are alike.
"He, Okonkwo was called the flaming fire. How could he have begotten a woman for a son.?"
