Tane and Whiro began their ascent to the heavens to collect the Baskets of Knowledge.
Whiro was angry at his younger brother Tane and sent the insects and birds to bite and stop him from reaching the heavens. Tane was helped by the wind which blew the insects and Whiro away.
Tane finally reached the top of the heavens where he was given the Three Baskets of Knowledge, by Io, the supreme god.
Tane starts his journey back down the mountain and again was attacked by the birds and insects.
Whiro gets blown off the mountain along with the insects and birds
Tane has arrived back to his whanau with the three baskets. The first contained all the knowledge that could help mankind, the second had the knowledge of ritual, memory and prayer. The third held knowledge of evil and all that was harmful to mankind.
