Storyboard Text

  • "Two households, both alike in dignity..." In Verona, there were two fueding families; the Montagues and the Capulets. They had been fueding for longer than anyone could remember.
  • Romeo and Juliet
  • One day, members of the two famillies had a stand off in the street. However, before there was too much bloodshed, Prince Escalus, the city's head of law and order, came to stop the fight. He proclaimed that if the two families ever disturbed the streets again, thier "lives would pay the forfeit of the peace."
  • Rebellious subjects, enemies to peace!
  • Romeo, the son of Lord and Lady Montague, was depressed because the woman he loved, Rosaline, would not return his love. He had not told anyone about this, so his parents were worried. They sent his cousin, Benvolio, to find out what had happened.
  • Out of her favor where I am in love.
  • Meanwhile, the Capulets were dealing with love for their own child, Juliet. She was an only child of fourteen, and rarely left her house. Lord Capulet, her father, struck a deal with Paris, the nephew of Prince Escalus, saying that once she was old enough, Juliet would marry him. A huge party was planned for them to meet for the first time.
  • But woo her, gentle Paris, get her heart.
  • By accident, Romeo, Benvolio, and their friend Mercutio got invited to the party. When Juliet was supposed to be dancing with Paris, she and Romeo saw each other, and fell in love. They almost kissed before Juliet's Nurse and Benvolio pulled them away.
  • My lips, two blushing pilgrims ready stand,
  • After the party, Romeo sneaked around to Juliet's balcony. He climbed up and asked Juliet to marry him. She agreed.
  • But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?
