Diagnostic methods Diagnosis of schizophrenia involves ruling out all other possible diagnosis. Determining a diagnosis of schizophrenia may include: -Physical exam. -Tests and screenings. -Psychiatric evaluation. -Diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia.
Treatments There is not one single causes of schizophrenia. So treatments focus on eliminating the symptoms of the disease. Treatments include: -Antipsychotics -Psychosocial Treatments -Coordinated specialty care (CSC) -Hospitalization Schizophrenia requires lifelong treatment, even when symptoms have subsided
Prevalence of schizophrenia According to National Institute of Mental Health, “Across studies that use household-based survey samples, clinical diagnostic interviews, and medical records, estimates of the prevalence of schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders in the U.S. range between 0.25% and 0.64%.3,4,5” “Estimates of the international prevalence of schizophrenia among non-institutionalized persons is 0.33% to 0.75%.6,7”
