This an external conflict because when Andys in history class he breaks down and starts crying when Ms Blackwell and the class learn about Shakespeare Mcbeth. This showed his emotions on the outside. This is a person vs society type conflict because of the way Andy reacts towards a story of a General who assains his king which was also his best friend. Mcbeth is filled with grief and guilt. This leads Mcbeth to kill himself... This situation sadly reminded Andy how he believes that he murdered his own best friend Robert.
This was an internal conflict where Andy wrote a letter to Rob's parents. This was recommended to Andy from his psychologist to write a letter to Rob's parents. This is because Andy feels extremely to the point where he doesn't even know how to apologize. He decides to write down his emotions down in a letter. He writes down so many good memories Rob and him shared. Such as when they would come back from basketball games and Robs mom would say she wouldn't buy their ice cream. There were so many memories he shared and that he treasured and wouldn't forget.
This was an external conflict because Andy was trying to solve a minor concern that he has towards Monty. He saw that Monty was making a drawing for homework and realized that the people in his drawing are only blonde. He thinks it's concerning that Monty doesn't truly embrace his culture. Andy tries to explain to Monty that people with black hair and dark sin can be pretty too and how they can be admired also.
