Storyboard Text

  • Guilty of Witchcraft
  • In the novel "The Crucible," the settlers of Salem are all afraid of witchcraft and they're accusing their neighbors and friends of witchcraft.
  • Guilty of Communism
  • This relates to real life history where in the past, we were in the same situation as the people in Salem. We were afraid of Communism just like the people of Salem were afraid of witches.
  • AAHHH!!! A witch!!! RUN!!!!
  • No
  • In the crucible, the town of Salem had witch trials in order to convict people who are believed to be practicing witchcraft.
  • During the "red scare," Senator Joseph McCarthy had similar trials that convicted people who were believed to be practicing communism.
  • The Salem settler's fear of witches could be another way of talking about their fear of the unknown
  • The settlers didn't know much of what happened in the forests or in the areas around their settlement. They also knew nothing of witches and witchcraft.
