Storyboard Text

  • Throughout the course of the Revolution, resistance against the National Convention and it's democratic values existed mainly within a Western region known as Vendee. In response to France's recent societal reforms, many of these individuals formulated a militia against the national government in hopes of dissembling the Republic's future.
  • Democracy shall perish!
  • The counterrevolution forces will never succeed. We must defend the republic and our new freedom!
  • The National Convention must back down! Let the monarchy live!
  • The Catholic Royal Army is holding strong sir, we must fight back, no matter how brutal it may seem!
  • Terror is the most powerful driving force of revolution. This Revolutionary Tribunal will unearth any individuals who may threaten the republic's success.
  • Please listen, I promise I'm innocent, please!
  • As the Reign of Terror unfolded, the National Convention was determined to stifle any threats against the revolution's success by executing hundreds of citizens  who may possibly have been associated with the monarch's existence or counterrevolution forces.
  • Won't you please show mercy to a woman? Or Priest? Or a school boy?
  • Any sense of resentment shall be diminished!
  • This new governing body accomplished certain financial feats, yet lead France down a pathway of crisis and inflammation due to their consistent arguments...
  • While ultimately weakening the Revolution, the Reign of Terror came to a close during the time in which the convention established a new foundation for France's future government.
  • Constitution of 1795
  • Newly Elected, Directory
  • In attempts to lead France towards a time of political and social stability, the National Convention proudly presented the Constitution of 1795. This document identified many proceedings, one of which included limiting voting rights to landowning males only.
