Storyboard Text

  • Rainsford Falls into the Water
  • "The cry was pinched off as the blood-warm waters of the Caribbean Sea closed over his head." (19)
  • Rainsford Makes His Way onto the Island
  • "Dense jungle came down to the very edge of the cliff" (19)
  • Rainsford Goes to Zaroff's House
  • "... huge beam- ceiling bedroom with a canopied bed big enough for 6 men..." (21)
  • This example of setting sets up the conflict by showing why he had to go on the island in the first place. If he had never fallen out of the boat, he never would have had to go on the island.
  • This example of setting shows that Rainsford seems to be on an uninhabited island and does necessarily seem to be in danger. Rainsford is not aware there are others on the island.
  • This setting of Rainsford being in Zaroff's bedroom shows that Rainsford appears to be completely safe. He does not realize that Zaroff has planned to hunt Rainsford within the jungle.
