  • Jonas
  • Lily
  • Asher
  • Positive traits: He always does the right thing and is happy about his new assignment, but also excited. He follows the rules that he is given almost all the time. Negative traits: He asks lots of questions and is almost too curious about everything. Changes: Jonas started to see color at one point when he was throwing an apple to Asher, but didn't know what the change he was seeing was. He became the receiver and found out what the change was, it was color.
  • Father
  • Positive traits: She is very talkative and likes to tell stories about anything really. The stories are usually about how she was feeling or what happened that day. Negative traits: Lily gets attached to Gabe, in a different way, she likes him a lot. When he is supposed to be released she is okay with it, even though she doesn't know what really happens. (no one really does. Changes: She turns eight and gets a identifying jacket. She also gets her comfort object taken away. She also is starting her volunteer hours, and wants to help father with Gabe at the nurturing center.
  • Mother
  • Positive traits: He is polite by apologizing and he is very nice to all his friends and his family unit. Negative traits: Asher is late to class a lot of the time, and has to apologise in front of everyone in his class. Changes: After the ceremony of twelve his and Jonas's friendship starts to drift apart. They rarely talk anymore, or even see each other. Asher was chosen to be the Recreation Director, he did as he was told and followed his schedule.
  • The Giver
  • Positive traits: Father never really does anything bad except the one time he looked at Gabriel's name before the naming ceremony. He is very nice to others and loves taking care of the newchildren in his job. Negative traits: Father doesn't know it but he is actually killing the newchildren when he "releases" them. Changes: He changes by telling everyone not to get attached to Gabe when he brings him home, but he gets attached himself. He also changes by paying more attention to Gabe then his own kids.
  • Positive traits: Mother likes to follow the rules, and helps to have everyone else to do the same. Negative traits: She is always reminding others in her family unit to use precision of language.(which I know annoys me when my mom does that) Changes: She changes by At the beginning of the book she was always on top of her family unit for many things, you know like a mother does. Then by the end of the book she was letting some of it just go. She also became distant from Jonas towards the end of the book, like he wasn't sharing stuff anymore, and they hardly talked to each other.
  • Positive traits: He is very kind and gentle with Jonas. He knows what the training is like being the new receiver, so he is doing really good with helping Jonas adjust to the colors and the pain. Negative traits: The Giver failed at one point to train a different person to be the receiver. Changes: At the beginning of the book he was okay with the way things were, like that he was the only one that had the memories and colors. At the middle/end of the book, Jonas changed his view of that. He realized that it was wrong and horrible to "release" people/newchildren.
