  • The causes of the Perian Wars was because of the disputed land.
  • Greece
  • Persia
  • Phelidippides sprinted 26 miles from Marathon to Athen, to let everyone know that the Persians were coming. 
  • Battle of Marathon
  • The battle of Marathon was in 490 B.C.E. The Greeks found out that the Persians were about to attack. So the Greeks surprised the Persians when they were unloading their ships.
  • Attack
  • Retreat!
  • The Spartans held off the Persian in a narrow pass, but on the 3rd day, a traitor told the Persian another way around. The Greeks retreated but the 300 Spartans stood strong.
  • Battle of Thermopylae
  • The Battle of Thermopylae took place in 480 B.C.E
  • Battle of Salamis
  • The Greeks fought the Persians at sea. The Greeks used their new ships, Trieme, to punch holes into the Persian ships.
  • 480 B.C.E
  • When the Athens were crushing the Persians at sea, the Spartans were on the plain of the Plataea and crushing the rest of the Perian army. At the end of this Xerxes retreated.

  • Effects of the Persian Wars
  • The effects of the Persian Wars is that the Greeks victory created a sense of unity. The Athens had control of what was left of Greece through the leadership of the Delian League.
