The scarlet ibis flew out of it's normal habitat and then the bird died. The scarlet ibis wasn't meant to survive out of its habitat. William's family thought that he wouldn't be able to live because he couldn't walk.
Theme
Throughout the whole story red represent blood, or death. A Scarlet Ibis is red also.
Dynamic Character
William's skin is red because he is sick. His skin is just like the scarlet ibis, the bird is representing William through out the whole story.
Personal Reaction
The theme is that you should be grateful for what you have and not push for what you want.
The narrator had changed hs feelings toward his brother throughout the story. In the beginning he was unhappy because he didn't have a brother to play outside with or anything. But as the story goes on he helps him learn how to walk.
I think that the end of the story was sad. I also thought that narrator (brother) wasn't a bad brother I thought that he didn't know how to handle it because he was so young.
