"The Rock Pile" by: James Baldwin Macey Fletcher 7th period 5/7/18
The main character is Roy. He is a little boy who hangs out with his older brother a lot. He lives with his mom, dad, and little brother as well. They don't live in a very good area so they don't have the best home life.
Roy and his brother are sitting on the fire escape of their house. A group of boys that Roy knows passes by below. They tempt Roy to come play at the rock pile after his mother already warned him not to.
Roy decides to hurry down to the rock pile while his mother isn't paying attention. His brother tries to stop him but is unsuccessful. Once Roy gets there a gang fight starts and Roy gets hit in the head with a can. A man comes and breaks up the fight and Roy's mother catches him.
Roy's mother blames his actions for the accident. However, when Roy's father gets home he blames his wife. They begin to argue about who should be blamed. Eventually Roy's father calms down.
The theme of the story is responsibility. You must make correct choices tor there will be consequences. Blaming others for your actions is not morally correct. I liked the story and the theme.
