  • In this scene, George is talking about how Lennie is unable to do things by himself because his lack of intelligence.  This contributes to the them by making man seem selfish and non-caring. This makes the theme towards readers have a deeper connection to the real world. pg 40
  • The sinister plan
  • You take it, Carlson. When you see um, don’t give im no chance. Shoot for the guts
  • In this scene, Curley fought Lennie while Lennie was basically pleding for mercy, but Curley just kept beating until George came in. This contributes to the theme by showing that man has no mercy on others. This gives an understanding to the reader by showing that not everyone is nice in the world. pg 63
  • Facing reality
  • He's nice to me. He ain't gonna be mean
  • “Well he’s sick of you, said the rabbit. He’s gonna beat hell outta you and then go away and leave you
  • In this scene, Curley finds out that his wife is dead. He knew it was Lennie because of his lack of common sense. However, he describes killing him in the most gruesome way. This contributes to the theme by showing that man's version of payback is well beyond the way it should be. This makes the theme have a connection to the reader and how they take revenge. pg 96
  • Doing the right thing
  • He pulled the trigger. The crash of the shot rolled up the hills and rolled down again. Lennie jarred, and then settled slowly forward to the sand, and he lay without quivering
  • In this scene, Curley is giving Carlson the shotgun since the Lueger was not in his bag. This contributes to theme by showing that a man's idea of a plan can be violent and uncivilized. This gives an understanding to the reader by showing them that you should not hold grudges. pg 97
  • In this scene, the rabbit is explaining the harsh reality that Lennie is in; which is cruel. This contributes to the theme by showing that animals can pose as humans when cruelty occurs. This gives an understanding to the reader by showing them that you have to accept reality and try not to avoid it. pg 102
  • In this scene, George shoots Lennie. In his perspective, it was the right thing to do but was still a cruel act. This contributes to theme by showing that putting people out of their miesry can be cruel but it is the right thing to do. The reader gets an understanding by shwing them that doing curel things can sometimes be the right thing. pg 106
