A referral veterinary hospital must be efficient to increase staff well-being, client satisfaction, successful case outcomes and therefore profitability.
Having access to modern technology for communication
Efficient interdepartmental communication
Understanding the benefits of good (and consequences of bad) communication
Knowing what effective communication looks like
Building team rapport
A referral veterinary hospital has many personnel including nurses, veterinarians, and receptionists. Good communication between personnel is crucial for efficiency.
To find out about the perceptions of staff about communication in the workplace, we interviewed personnel in a referral veterinary hospital including veterinarians, nurses, and receptionists.
We analysed the interviews and identified the common issues raised in regards to hospital communication that could be improved upon
Having good conflict resolution skills
We propose hosting a staff weekend at in a location away from the hospital. The weekend will include exercises, lectures and role-play scenarios aimed at educating staff about the issues identified in the interviews.
After the staff weekend, there will be improvement in understanding of more efficient communication techniques leading to reduced instances of miscommunication and conflict. The referral veterinary hospital will therefore run smoother and become more profitable as staff work cohesively towards common goals.
