In the rising action of the short story “Three Skeleton Key” written by George G. Toulouse, the rats have climbed on the sides of a light house. One of the windows that the rats gnawed through, gave way and some rats got in. They chase the three men up the stairs, and the men are trying to shoo them off by stabbing them with knives. Le Gleo's mind is "going fast" as it says in the text. They try to signal land as soon as possible. Then they use the light to blind the rats so they were blinded and fell off of the tower.
Hes going crazy!!!
WERE GOING TO DIEE!!
NOOO MY BROTHERS!!!
NOOOOOO YOU'LL SQUISH MEEEE!!!!!!!!!
The rats continue to climb on the building, trying to get in the lighthouse and eat them. Some rats have already got in here, and we are doing our best to fight them off.
Le Gleo is going crazy, yelling about skeletons and how they are going to die and Tree Skeleton Key will soon be Six Skeleton Key. Meanwhile Itchoua was raving about how his companion is going crazy and I am trying to kill off all of the rats trying to attack us.
Itchoua thinks to use the light to blind the rats, making them fall off of the light tower. This helps a bit but for every three that fall, ten crowd back on the window.
