In the book, the One and Only Ivan, by: Kathrine Applegate, the main character Ivan is affected by his setting, because he lives in a domain with nothing to do, and that affects him because in one sentence he says, "With enough time, you can get used to almost anything." (Pg. 22) Which shows Ivan is lonely. "'He looks so lonely' they say." (Pg. 21)
This event in the book is when Julia comes and draws by Ivan's domain. "Someday I hope I can draw the way Julia draws." This shows that Ivan is dependent. Because Julia and Ivan both share a bond together. They both are artists inside. "We are both great apes, and we are both artists." Thats how Julia and Ivan share a special bond.
And then a new character comes to the book, her name is Ruby. Ruby is a curious character. Because in on point of the book, Ruby is asking Ivan questions because she's new to the place.
And at another point in the book, Stella, Ivan's friend, die's from a foot infection. So Ivan make's a promise that he will take care of ruby. This shows that Ivan finally has a purpose.
And then Ivan see's a cage with two people and finds out they are going to the zoo. Not to live in his domain anymore. This shows that Ivan is stubborn because Maya, the zoo keeper is making Ivan live at the zoo, which he though he would be away from ruby.
Come on Ivan
Ivan's good friend Stella, (Also an elephant) Is strong and brave because Stella has a infected foot and Mack, the keeper, doesn't do anything about it, so Stella has to stay strong and brave because she still preforms with a infected foot.
