  • There is a large group of people in Catalonia, Spain that want to become an independent republic. The group is lead by  Carles Puigdemont.
  • Catalonia
  • The group thinks their civic and political rights are being violated by Spain. Not all Catalans think this, so Catalonia is divided.
  • We want independence!

  • The Catalans took a vote and the majority of the two million voters were for the secession from Spain.

  • The Spanish Prime Minister, Marian Rajoy, sent forces to Catalonia that harmed a number of the unarmed protesters. The Spain High Court has been investigating to arrest members of the group of possible sedition charges.
  • Spain thinks the Catalans are being disloyal to them. Some European politicians  have sided with Spain but other countries, including the United States, have said that the issue  is an internal matter.
  • But it's not up to us!
