Theodore and Violet both go up to the bell tower thinking about killing themselves. Theodore decides he doesn't want to do it today, but Violet's ready to jump. Theodore convinces her not to jump, and their lives intertwine from here.
Their first time wandering
Theodore and Violet are given a project to wander Indiana. They're seniors and its time that they discover the beauty of the home before leaving. Theodore chooses Violet to be his partner, however she is uncertain about it.
They visit the Bookmobile Park
Theodore and Violet talk about the first time they met on the bell tower. Theodore wants to know why Violet was going to kill herself and how she got up there because the bell tower was locked. Violet wants to know why everyone calls him a freak. Theo can't come up with a good response.
They travel to the Blue Hole
Theo and Violet travel to Hoosier Hill, the highest point of Indiana. They find beauty in Indiana they never thought was there. To show their travels, they decide to take something from this place, but in return they leave something else. It's their way of leaving their mark.
Theo and Violet go to the Bookmobile Park for their next wandering. Violet is amazed at the many books there are and the beauty of it. She finds her favorite childhood book and decides that that is going to be the thing they take from this. Violet and Theo are slowly falling for each other throughout their many wanderings.
The Bookmobile Park
Their next wandering is the Blue Hole. It's a lake that's so deep that no one has ever touched the bottom. Theo has been coming for a while, making it his mission to touch the bottom. Violet takes this time to admire Theo and his weird, but loving personality.
