Perseus and Hermes arrived at the island of the Gorgons. Perseus first saw the dead animals and men that were turned to stone, then he saw the three gorgons. He felt scared, but then remembered the gifts that were given to him. He now felt determined to finish his mission.
The Road Back
Athena tells Perseus which Gorgon is Medusa. Using the shield that was given to him, he looked into the mirror to see Medusa sleeping. Perseus took his sword and decapitated Medusa. He flew away from the island with his winged sandals before the other Gorgons could kill him.
Perseus was rewarded with various things. Such as Medusa's head, satisfaction and confidence in himself. He was ready to start his perilous journey back to his peaceful island to show Polydectes Medusa's head.
Return with the Elixir
On the way back, Perseus traveled on his own. On his way he encountered a dangerous sea monster. He then slew the sea monster and saved princess Andromeda from getting devoured by the monster. Andromeda then decided to go home with him.
When Perseus returned home, he realized Polydectes tricked him into leaving, just to get Perseus away from his mom. Out of anger and the desire to prove that he slayed Medusa, Perseus pulled out the head of Medusa and showed Polydectes, who then turned into stone. Now Perseus didn't have to worry about his mother's safety because Polydectes was dead.
Perseus went to the city where King Acrisius was hosting the games. Perseus decided to participate in the games and played discus. When it was Perseus's turn to throw the discus, the oracle's prediction became true when the discus accidentally hit and killed King Acrisius. Perseus got married to Princess Andromeda.
