Mom needs a sitter for David next Wednesday. Kathy can't come.
Kristy Thomas comes up with the idea to start a Baby-Sitter's Club. Kristy's mom has a hard time finding a babysitter for Kristy's little brother. So, Kristy decides to organize a Baby-Sitter's Club so that parents can always find a babysitter. She gets her three seventh grade friends to join the club: Claudia Kishi, Mary Anne Spier, and Stacey McGill.
Something very special happened today. Watson asked me if I would consider getting engaged to him.
Kristy's parents are divorced and her mother has a new boyfriend, Watson. Even though Kristy hardly ever sees her dad, she doesn't like her mom having a new boyfriend. One night he comes over for dinner and Kristy gets in a big argument with Watson. She tells him he's a horrible father because he left his own kids at home with a babysitter.
You're not a freak! We'll quit offering you candy.
I have diabetes... My mother acts like it's some kind of curse.
The four girls are thrilled when they get their first call for the Baby-Sitter's Club. Their first call is from Kristy's mom who needs a babysitter for Kristy's brother, David. The regular babysitter, Kathy, can't come on Wednesday. The girls decide to have Stacey take the job so she can get to know some other people in the neighborhood and meet Kristy's brothers.
We love the Baby-Sitters Club!!!
One evening Kristy comes home for dinner and her mom tells her to go upstairs and put on a dress. She puts on the dress, comes back downstairs and can't figure out why everything is so fancy at the dinner table. Kristy's mom announces she's getting engaged to Watson. Her brothers congratulate her mom, but Kristy is worried about where they will live and has lots of other questions.
The four girls are having a sleepover at Kristy's house. Stacy admits she has been lying about something. She tells them that the diet she's on and her trips to New York are to see her doctors about her diabetes. Stacey tells her friends she was getting bullied at her old school about her diabetes. Even her mom acts like it's some kind of curse. So, they decided to move to a peaceful little town. The girls reassure her it's nothing to be ashamed about.
Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anne, and Stacey are at the sleepover. They are really good friends even though they have had some arguments. Kristy promises to watch her mouth because it gets her in trouble all the time. The Baby-Sitter's Club has been a success and they all hope they will stay together for a long time.
