Gatsby and daisy accident in the valley of ashes
"He stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and, far as I was from him, I could have sworn he was trembling." This is showing how Gatsby is reaching out for Daisy's dock. Fitzgerald is trying to show Gatsby's dream, which continues through out the book (Fitzgerald 20-21).
"The bar is in full swing, and floating rounds of cocktails," This is showing Gatsby's extraordinary parties, which is a place people can go to get away from the real world. Fitzgerald is trying to show the purpose of materialism because of all of the money Gatsby is spending (Fitzgerald 40).
"Her eyes, wide with jealous terror, were fixed not on tom , but on Jordan Baker, whom she took to be his wife." This quote is from when Gatsby and Daisy were on their way back home and Myrtle thought that Tom was the one who was driving so she ran out in the street to get help, and then Daisy hit he. Fitzgeralds purpose is to show that Myrtle was trying to receive help from Tom but she mistook Gatsby's car as Toms (Fitzgerald 125).
