Storyboard Text

  • James Donovan Halliday was born on June 12, 1972, in Middletown, Ohio.
  • You're invited to one of my weekly D&D gaming sessions in my basement.
  • He was introduced to an entire group of "mega geeks." They had accepted him as one of their own and for the first time, he had a circle of friends.
  • Halliday created his first video game at age 15. He had gotten a TRS-80 Color Computer that previous Christmas. He had called it Anorak's Quest. The name came from a female British exchange student. He had liked it so much that he had named his favorite D&D character.
  • They had started to sell the video game at their local computer store. They hand-copied the game onto dozens of 5 1/4-inch floppy disks and stuck them into ziplock bags. Including a set of instructions.
  • When they kept selling out, they decided to start their own business in Morrow's basement. Halliday programmed new versions for the Atari 800XL. In 6 months, themselves and their game became nationals best seller.
  • Gregarious Games
  • By this 13th birthday, he was a multimillionaire. He bought one of the original "Delores" used.
