  • Newtons Laws
  • 1. things are at rest until a force is applied 2.force is equal to change in momentum per change in time (mass times velocity) ,F=ma 3. every action has an equal, opposite action
  • how come chairs dont move unless we move them
  • first law
  • third law
  • Its because Newtons first law says things are at rest until force is applied
  • remember when we were at the park and I pushed you on the swing?
  • I wonder how hard I pushed you
  • second law
  • well F=ma
  • I went so high!
  • what does that mean?
  • soooo?
  • oh now I get it
  • thanks to Newton's second law
  • it means my mass times how fast i went was how hard you pushed me
  • so if i'm 10 kg and i went 3m/s/s then you pushed me  30 joules
  • no but i'm wondering if we put so much force on chairs how does it stay up
  • how come weight of people doesn't make chairs fall
  • its because according to newtons third law every action has an equal opposite action
  • are you calling me fat?
  • WHAT does THAT mean
  • oh ok
  • it means when I push the chair it pushes me back
