Storyboard Text

  • Ally's mother was from the Pine Ridge Reservation, no one knew too much about her father. They were both addicts, her mother was an alcoholic who died of liver cancer a long time ago.
  • When Ally was 8 her family moved to Minneapolis, she had family in Duluth who could care for her more than her parents could.
  • But her family was dealing with their own problems, they didn't look after her. Ally never learned to read and she often found herself alone outside.
  • When Ally was 13 years old she went missing. She became one of the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in the United States
  • The Gitchigumi Scouts found her when she was 22, in New Mexico at a strip club. They slid her a note reading "are you okay" she wrote "HELP" on the backside.
  • They left immediately, she cried the whole drive back to Minnesota. One of the scouts showed her a comic from Pine Ridge and started reading it. Ally liked it, the pictures were beautiful.
