Storyboard Text

  • James Madison
  • James Madison was elected president in 1808, and unlike Washington and Jefferson, Madison wanted a war with England. Madison wrote a War Message to Congress providing reasons why we should go into was with Great Britian. He believed that something needed to change between them.
  • I'm going to make this country a better place, I promise.
  • Causes of the War
  • James Madison wrote to Congress because of the inpressent and attacks on the U.S ships. Britan claimed that it would stop, but it was already too late. Another reason we wanted war was because the British were organizing the Native Americans in the Northwest Territory to fight the Americans
  • Please don't hurt me!
  • Battle in the Great Lakes
  • The battle of Lake Erie happened in Lake Erie, near Ohio, in 1813. This was an American victory led by Oliver Hazard Perry and a few other Americans. Perry used a rowboat with his team, after his own ship was sunk, and destroyed 2 British fleet ships. This was one of the biggest battles from the war of 1812.
  • Francis Scott Key watched the bombardment of Ft. McHenry in Maltimore with his troops, as the Americans stopped the British invasion. While watching this, Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner. At the same time, The White House got burned down as Madison fled from the situation.
  • STOP
  • Maybe I should write a song about this...
  • Francis Scott Key and the Bombardment of Fort McHenry
  • Hey guys look over there!!
  • Andrew Jackson and the Battle of New Orleans
  • The British attacked New Orleans to cut off American use of the Mississippi River. James Madison sent Andrew Jackson to command the American forces. In the war, there were 71 American casualties and 2,000 British casualties thanks to Andrew.
  • You guys don't deserve the Mississippi
  • We'll fight you for it
  • Effects of the war
  • U.S began the Industrial Revolution as manufacturing and farming grew. Also the American Patriotism and the heroes of the wars got recognition. As the American Population grew, the Native American population slowly started to fade.
  • The war of 1812 sure did have a big boost on the economy.
