"She is alone. She lives on 2nd Street, near a bridge. Get it done by 11:15. Use a knife."
"I'm sorry madam. We can't help you."
"What's that sound downstairs?"
"We cannot accommodate you. We're sorry."
Mrs. Stevenson has had an uneasy feeling all day. Her husband, Mr. Stevenson, has left her alone, while he is at work. He has not yet come home, and it is getting late. She tries to call him, but she gets another line, overhearing two people planning a murder.
After many problems with the operator, Mrs. Stevenson finally gets the police on the line, but they ultimately can not help her.
Mrs. Stevenson decides to call the city hospital. She wants to hire a personal nurse, to keep her company. The hospital cannot accommodate her. The time reads 11:14. Mrs. Stevenson hears someone downstairs.
"Sorry, wrong number."
Mrs. Stevenson phones the police, again. It is 11:15. The murder comes upstairs, and kills Mrs. Stevenson with a knife.
The police finally pick up the phone and answer Mrs. Stevenson. It is too late. The police begin to get worried, and repeatedly state her name and ask
The murder hears the police and responds, "Sorry, wrong number."
