  • My daughter has been making random noises and movements. Her father has Tourette's Syndrome and I'm worried she could too. What are the symptoms?
  • Tics are the most common symptoms of Tourettes Syndrome. Sudden movements and sounds are motor and verbal tics.
  • What caused her to get Tourette's syndrome? What gene is affected by this syndrome
  • The cause of Tourette's syndrome is unknown. Scientists believe it's genetic and environmental actors. In a small amount of these cases the chromosome  13 of gene SLITRK1 is affected. 
  • Tourettes syndrome is inherited from an parent. Some studies suggest that there is an autosomal dominant inheritance. An autosomal dominant inheritance is when only one copy of the defective gene that is inherited from a parent is needed to produce the disorder.
  • How is this condition inherited?
