  • It felt like a long day at school for Charlie, but he was elated when he got to stop at the candy store. As he walked in he looked around and picked out the candy he wanted. As Charlie was about to pay for the candy, he noticed he had no money. Charlie was tantalized by the delicious smelling aroma of the candy, but he could not buy any. elated #4- Delighted; joyful; elevated in mood tantalized #4- To tease; to promise and then withhold
  • The thought of not getting the delicous candy put Charlie in a somber mood. As Charlie was walking home, he planned to incriminate his sister for stealing his money even though he knew that was not true. His parents have a creed to always tell the truth and to never lie. Luckily he became lucid and decided that telling the truth would be best because he knew lying would do nothing good. Somber #4-Gloomy; dark and depressing. incriminate #3- To blame or accuse. Creed #2- A set of beliefs, values, opinions, or principles. Lucid #4-understandable; clear;rational; sane

  • As Charlie came home, he was greeted by his mom.  Charlie's mom tried to sedate Charlie by hugging him so he would not cry.  As Charlie told his mom what the problem was, she came up with a solution right away. the solution was getting a job. Although getting a paying job was a hypothetical problem due to his young age, his mom had another idea. Sedate #4- To calm down. Hypothetical #4- supposed; presumed to exsist
  • His mom suggested that if he helped lift boxes at his father's job for a week, they would give him a tangible reward which would be money. Charlie did not like this because he abhored the idea of having to do work.  Tangible #4- able to be touched or felt; real; definite. Abhor #1- deep hatred towards something
  • Even though Charlie digressed from the idea of working for money, he ended up doing it anyways. Charlie knew that working would be worth it because he would be able to earn money. Then he would finally be able to buy the candy he wanted. digress #4- to stray from the main topic while speaking or writing. 
  •  All the cumbersome boxes were very hard to carry and Charlie was exhausted after lifting many boxes.  Although this work was very tiring, it was worth it in the end because he got 20 dollars.  Cumbersome #4- clumsy; hard to handle due to weight or size
