“ okonkwo did not have the start in life which many young men usually had. He did no inherit a barn from his father. There was no barn to inherit.”
He started with nothing because his father was a joke to the village and did nothing. So he didn't get a good start like his other fellow members he gained the strength to do something for himself.
The only thing okonkwo felt was fear and anger, and his fear consumed him. He was afraid to be like his father which pushed him to work harder and to be known through out his village.
“ but his whole life was dominated by fear, the fear of failure and of weakness. Even as little boy he had resented his fathers failure and weaknes."
He didnt need his father for him to do great things he succeed without the help from anyone. He built himself up along with his life which made him strong.
“okonkwo was clearly cut out for great things.he was still young but had won fame as the greatest wrestler in the nine villages. He was a wealthy farmer and had two barn full of yams, and had just married his third wife.”
“Okonkwo ruled his household with a heavy hand. His wives especially the youngest, lived in perpetual fear of his fiery temper, and so do his children”
the only thing that ever held Okonkwo was his fear. In order for him to cope with the fear he was always angry and took it out on others especially his family
"Dazed with fear, Okonkwo drew his machete and cut him down. He was afraid of being thought weak."
His fear also drove him into killing his "son" who we all know he loved as his own. His fear drove him to kill him and he loved Ikemefuna deep down and lived on with the guilt.
"It is an abomination for a man to take his own life. it is an offense against the earth."
in the end Okonkwo didnt have the mental strength any longer to live. in him killing himself he lost all the respect he worked so hard for .
